Planning for the Future

Salem-Keizer Public Schools is making progress for students, with two years of academic growth driven by high-quality instruction. At the same time, our district is serving fewer students than it did just a few years ago. Enrollment has declined from more than 40,000 students to about 35,000, and we must plan for that change.

Our Commitment to the Community

No decisions have been made. We are beginning a public process to explore options, including the potential closure of up to eight elementary schools starting in the 2027–28 school year. Throughout the process, we will share information openly and provide meaningful opportunities for students, families, staff, and community members to ask questions, share feedback, and stay informed.
