OPTIONS is Salem-Keizer Public School's way of providing instruction to all students wherever, whenever, and however they need it. These needs include flexible programs that provide some students with more structure and guidance to complete their education, while other programs provide an opportunity for students to move ahead at a more accelerated pace.

Alternative Ways to Earn High School Credit
Community Service
- Available to grades 11-12
- Students can earn pass/no pass elective community service credit through school approved community service programs. Application process, number of hours and other course requirements may vary by school.

Correspondence Courses
- Available to grades 9-12
- Accredited schools and colleges offer correspondence courses for high school credit that meet specific needs of some high school students. Students are responsible for all costs and deadlines.

Early/Late Bird Classes
- Available to grades 9-12
- These classes are offered during an extra period scheduled before or after school in limited subjects. Varies from school to school.

General Work Experience
- Available to grades 11-12
- Students can earn elective work experience credit through paid employment. Application process varies by school.
- 65 hours of paid employment = 0.5 credit
- Pass/No Pass Grade Only.

Independent Study
- Available to grades 11-12
- Students contract with the school to complete a specific course of study to earn credit in various subjects. Varies from school to

Online Courses
- Available to grades 9-12
- Any Salem-Keizer student may take selected courses through the Internet. Licensed content teachers teach these Internet classes. Content may be accessed at any time, allowing each student to advance through the curriculum at his or her own rate of learning.
- Rolling entry.
- No fee for students enrolled SKPS high schools. Non-SKPS student tuition is $265.

PE by Proficiency
- Available to grades 9-12
- Students pursue a physical education activity beyond the classroom and are expected to design, implement, and complete an individualized plan.
- 0.5 credit only

Structured Work Experience
- Available to grades 10-12
- Students can earn credit by working in areas such as banking, auto mechanics, medicine, food service, retail, office and management. Varies from school to school.

World Language by Proficiency
- Available to grades 9-12
- Proficiency by assessment for students who are multilingual. Provides credit in heritage or native languages other than English. Students receive credit in the highest proficiency level attained plus all levels leading up to it.

Advanced Placement (AP)
- Available to grades 10-12
- AP courses are offered in English, social studies, mathematics, science and second languages. Students who take the AP exams in these subjects may be able to obtain college credit.

Chemeketa Dual Enrollment
- Available to grades 11-12
- Students may take coursework through Chemeketa Community College (CCC) while enrolled in their high school program.

College Credit Now!
- Available to grades 10-12
- College Credit Now (CCN) provides credit in a variety of college-level courses taught by high school teachers. The credit can transfer to Oregon’s four-year universities as well as community colleges.
- Students can take as many CCN classes as are available to them at their school for only $30 per year.
- College-level courses vary from school to school.

Early College High School
- Available to grades 9-12
- Early College High School (ECHS) is a collaboration between Salem-Keizer School District and Chemeketa Community College (CCC).
- This is a college preparatory program for students who are highly motivated, and who may need extra resources and support to enter college.
- ECHS students exit at grade 12 with both a high school diploma and a CCC transcript.

International Baccalaureate Career-Related Program (IB CP)
- Available to grades 11-12
- The International Baccalaureate Program offers motivated students a highly academic program for grades 11-12.
- The International Baccalaureate Program offers motivated students a rigorous academic program that connects to Career & Technical Education (CTE) programs of study for students in grades 11-12. Students in grades 9-10 are encouraged to take classes that will prepare them for the rigor of the IB courses as well as their CTE program of study.

International Baccalaureate (IB)
- Available to grades 11-12
- The International Baccalaureate Program offers motivated students a highly academic program for grades 11-12.
- Students take individual courses for possible college credit in English, social science, sciences, languages, mathematics, and electives that can be combined for a full program accepted at colleges throughout the world.

Willamette Gifted Scholars Program
- Available to seniors (grade 12)
- The Gifted Scholars Program at Willamette University is available for a limited number of seniors at each school who have excelled in accelerated course work at their high school and need additional academic challenges.

Willamette Promise
- Available to grades 10-12
- Some of our schools offer dual credit through the Willamette Promise out of the Willamette ESD. This is a collaborative approach amongst several college institutions including Western Oregon University, Corban University, and Oregon Tech (formerly OIT).
- The approach is a little different in that students enroll in their high school classes and if they meet the college course criteria, then enroll in the college course knowing they have already passed and their grade. It’s a proficiency-based project focused on what we call the core and what colleges call “lower division transfer” credits – writing, math, science, social sciences, and foreign language.

- Open to 11th and 12th grade students
- CTEC offers exciting and innovative Career Technical Education programs.
- CTEC programs provide the competitive advantage needed to tap into the high-wage, high-demand jobs of the future.

EDGE Virtual Online Program
- Available to grades Kindergarten-12
- EDGE is a robust online learning program for students in grades K-12 that is deeply connected to their schools and powered by Salem-Keizer Public Schools.
- Utilizing a new enhanced learning experience for students and families, EDGE students will be connected to high quality, rigorous and well-rounded learning opportunities, including instructional supports, English language development support and more.

GED Preparation Program
- Available to grades 10-12, age 16-21.
- Located at the Downtown Learning Center (DTLC), the GED Preparation Program offers preparation and testing to earn a GED certification.
- GED Option requires 10th grade reading level.

Roberts High School at Chemeketa
- Available to grades 9-12
- The goal for this student-centered school is to offer an individual and student-centered experience in contrast to the traditional style of education.
- Students will have more individualized academic opportunities with a smaller school setting that will offer greater potential for academic and social-emotional growth.
- Students may choose online classes or face-to-face classes in a smaller setting.
- On-site childcare is available for parenting students.

Roberts Middle School at Riverfront
- Available to grades 7-8
- Roberts Middle School at Riverfront offers an educational experience that prioritizes relationships and social-emotional development. Academic opportunities are more individualized, and the smaller school setting provides a greater potential for growth relating to the whole child.

Structured Learning Center
- Available to grades 6-12
- Roberts Structured Learning Center helps expelled students in grades 6-12 continue their education while developing behavioral skills and maintaining academic progress.
- Placement at SLC is by arrangement for one year or less.
