McNary High School senior Angel Olmos-Lopez is an National Honor Society student and is the co-president of the Celtic’s garden club. He hopes to attend Oregon State University next fall, and plans to studying engineering.

Along with being an exemplary student at McNary, we’re recognizing Angel because he’s a Board member of the Keizer Community Library. He was recently profiled in a feature article in the Keizertimes newspaper.

Angel says he’s been passionate about reading ever since his childhood. Last summer when he was looking for volunteer opportunities in the community, he decided to work at the Keizer Community Library because of his love of books.

After he began volunteering at the library, Angel says the library staff noticed that he really wanted to help out so they offered him the a new student position on the library board.

Angel says it’s been a pleasure to help out visitors to the library, and to see people’s faces light up when he gives them a hand.

Angel’s parents are the owners of Fortaleza Bakery on River Road in Keizer, and he’s been working as a cashier there since middle school. He says that taught him the value of hardwork, and also about the importance of customer service.

Congratulations to Angel on being recognized by the Salem-Keizer School Board with a Student Spotlight on Success for giving back to Keizer community.
