Following the announcement from the Oregon School Activities Association (OSAA) to delay fall season sports, Salem-Keizer Public Schools will enter into a modified moratorium period for all athletics across the district starting on Monday, Aug. 31, 2020.

What does this mean?

Starting on Aug. 31, through Oct. 4, 2020, all athletics throughout the district will begin a modified moratorium period, with no on-site athletic activities, practices or competitions occurring. Unlike a traditional moratorium period, athletes and coaches will still have contact throughout the moratorium to provide increased support for student-athletes while adjusting to the new learning environment.

During the moratorium period, coaches will be supporting student success with a focus on the social emotional wellbeing of student-athletes. Coaches will be checking in regularly with athletes, providing intervention supports where needed and helping students stay active through virtual workouts or activities.

Music and other OSAA activities

In addition to athletics, we are currently evaluating how to engage students through all OSAA activities such as music programs. Please stay tuned as we finalize our plans to prioritize the safety and wellbeing of all students and staff and we will communicate more details about our plans for after the moratorium period soon.

Thank you for being a part of our Salem-Keizer family and for your continued support of our students and staff through this unprecedented time.
