Emily Marshall, a Speech Language Pathologist with Willamette Education Service District, has been providing support to the Salem-Keizer Early Childhood Program students and families.

Supporting all students

Emily works to creatively meet student needs. This has included purchasing appropriate food items for a student with sensory needs, advocating for resources for students with limited language and supporting teachers to implement accommodations.

During the 2021-2022 school year, Emily shared the idea for creating Communication Boards on Early Childhood Playgrounds. She shared resources and ideas on how this could support all students. With this advocacy, communication boards have been installed at four Salem Keizer Early Childhood Centers.

These boards make district playgrounds more inclusive and will allow all students to be able to ask what they want and be able to express themselves with their peers. This tool will help ensure that all students have equal access regardless of the challenges they may face.
