The ILead Impact Awards are presented annually by the City of Salem’s ILead Youth Committee to celebrate the great work being done in our community around youth leadership development, health promotion and overall well being. There are two awards: the Youth Impact Award and the Adult Impact Award.

SKPS staff receives Adult ILead Impact Award

Congratulations to SKPS educator Peter Sepulveda from McKay High School for receiving the Adult Impact Award. The Adult Impact Award recognizes an individual, group, program or organization positively impacting the lives of teenagers in a significant way.

“Peter provides support that improves leadership development in teens, and spends countless hours mentoring and working with students to build connections with the McKay community. As an educator, he has fostered strong relationships with many different community groups that support the growth and development of individual students. Peter shares his passion for music and people by giving his time and skill to students, and he is an inspirational educator,” raved McKay Principal, Ranae Quiring.

SKPS student receives Youth ILead Impact Award

Dara Elkanah, a senior at South Salem High School, is the student recipient of the Youth ILead Impact Award. The Youth ILead Impact Award recognizes a young leader who significantly impacts the Mid-Willamette Valley and beyond. Dara is involved in many extracurricular activities at school including; Best Buddies, where she is the founding president, and the Student Equity Committee, just to name a few.

Dara inspires her peers through her positive attitude and dedication to improving the mental health of SKPS students and staff alike. Her service and leadership in school and around the community make the world a better place in big and small ways.

When asked to describe Dara, South Salem Principal, Lara Tiffin said, “Students and staff alike can count on her for a huge smile, a supportive note and a positive boost.”

Peter and Dara make an impact in their community, their schools and each individual they come to work with.
