Swimming is an amazing physical therapy for students
This year the Salem-Keizer Special Education department, in partnership with the YMCA, relaunched the physical therapy swim program.
Swimming is an amazing physical therapy opportunity for students with orthopedic and physical disabilities. It allows for a different type of overall motor activity that is fun and effective in meeting the needs of students. It also allows students to come together from across our 65 schools once every week for an activity they may not have experienced at this level before or outside of this program.
The YMCA has given our students the opportunity to engage in an activity that is rarely available to school-aged children as part of their school day – and in a way that allows families to participate along with their child and connect with resources that benefit the whole family.
