In May, Salem-Keizer Public Schools was awarded the Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting, presented by the Association of School Business Officials International (ASBO). ASBO International’s Certificate of Excellence recognizes districts that have met the program’s high standards for financial reporting and accountability.
SKPS earned the Certificate of Excellence for its Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) for the fiscal year ended 2017. The COE has been honoring school districts for their high-quality CAFRs for more than 45 years.
The CAFR informs parents and other stakeholders about the financial and economic state of the district, making it an important communication tool for building trust and engaging with the Salem-Keizer community.
“We are proud to be recognized for excellence in financial reporting,” said Superintendent Christy Perry. “Transparency is imperative for the building and maintaining of trust with our community, and I am pleased to have met the high standards of ASBO. Salem-Keizer Public Schools will continue to hold itself to high standards through continued participation in the COE program.”
According to the ASBO website, applying for the COE demonstrates transparency and credibility, improves financial reporting through comments from school financial professionals and is viewed by credit-rating agencies as a positive factor in decision-making.
