Talking with children in your life about suicide isn’t easy. If your child, friend or family member confides thoughts of suicide, it’s important to believe them and get help. Thoughout February and March, Salem Health and Salem-Keizer Public Schools are partnering to provide free suicide prevention trainings, “Question, Persuade and Refer.” The first session will begin Thursday, Feb. 6 at North Salem High School and will be conducted entirely in Spanish.

During these trainings, participants will learn:

  • Myths and facts about suicide
  • How to recognize signs someone may be thinking about suicide
  • How to ask Questions to assess the situation
  • How to Persuade the person to stay alive long enough to get help
  • How to Refer them to a professional for help to get them through the crisis and treat any underlying mental illness

Trainings are appropriate for anyone 14 years of age or older

Training dates and locations:

Registration is required. Free Dinner and Childcare will be provided.

Due to the nature of the training format, each session will be conducted either entirely in English or in Spanish.
