Salem-Keizer Public Schools has been monitoring the impact of the Omicron Covid-19 variant in the community and our schools. We are seeing higher than average student absences and are experiencing staffing shortages. Our priority is to ensure we have sufficient staff to operate in-person while ensuring the health and safety of staff and students.
While we are doing everything we can to minimize the impact on families, this new COVID-19 variant has spread rapidly, increasing illness in our schools and causing us to shift operations.
We have reached a crisis-level staffing shortage, so here’s what families need to know.
Friday, January 14 will be a non-student contact day
Due to the increasing staff illness and shortages throughout the district, we have made the difficult decision to make Friday, January 14 a non-student contact day. For families in need of childcare, we have reached out to area childcare providers who will communicate their availability directly to families. They are doing their best as they are also experiencing staffing shortages.
