Two high schools are welcoming new principals for 2021-22 school year. In addition, several new assistant principals are beginning new assignments at high schools and middle schools across the school district.

High School Principals

Renae Quiring – Principal, McKay High School​​​​​​​

With more than 25 years of experience in education, Renae Quiring has served in the district for the past eight years, most recently as an assistant principal on the Royal Scots team! Renae has served in multiple educational roles throughout her career including as a classroom teacher in Arizona and Southern Oregon, as an instructional coach, as well as supporting the district in developing professional learning options for area schools.

Carlos Ruiz – Principal, West Salem High School​​​​​​​

Carlos Ruiz has accepted the principal position at West Salem High School for the 2021-22 school year and will officially begin July 1. Carlos has served as an assistant principal at North Salem High School for four years and previously served as a teacher at West Salem High School. He is looking forward to improving opportunities for West students through an equity lens that meets the needs of every student.

High School Assistant Principals

Chelsea Lofstedt – Behavior Assistant Principal, McKay High School

Chelsea Lofstedt has been with SKPS for three years, most recently serving at McKay High School in the role of behavior specialist. Chelsea has also worked as a special education teacher and case manager during her first year at McKay High School. She will continue her work in the McKay community as the new behavior assistant principal.

Terra Yates – Assistant Principal, EDGE

Terra Yates currently serves as an assistant principal at West Salem High School and she will transition to serving EDGE as an assistant principal for the 2021-22 school year.

Jesse Clayton – Assistant Principal, McKay High School

Jesse Clayton has been with SKPS for 11 years, most recently serving for the past four years at Sprague High School in the role of curriculum assistant principal. Jesse has also been a middle school assistant principal at both Leslie Middle School and Claggett Creek Middle school, as well as an instructional coach at Waldo Middle School. Jesse’s educational career began with her serving as a high school English and AVID teacher.

Chelsea Lofstedt – Behavior Assistant Principal, McKay High School

Chelsea Lofstedt has been with SKPS for three years, most recently serving at McKay High School in the role of behavior specialist. Chelsea has also worked as a special education teacher and case manager during her first year at McKay High School. She will continue her work in the McKay community as the new behavior assistant principal.

Donnie Kim – Athletic Director and Assistant Principal, McKay High School

Mr. Kim is committed to working closely with students, teachers, parents and community members to ensure every student graduates college and career ready.Kim holds degrees in biology, science education and special education. He has spent his 10-year teaching career in a number of roles such as: engineering, science, and special education teacher. He is driven by a strong desire to provide equity for all students and has increased access and achievement for minority and non-traditional students in advanced science and engineering courses. He is eager to incorporate this work in his new position at McKay High School!

Michael Simental – Assistant Principal, North Salem High School

With 16 years of experience in education, Michael began his career as a classroom English teacher in California. For the last six years, he has served in Salem-Keizer at North Salem High School. Michael has served in a variety of roles throughout his career including classroom teacher, department chair, curriculum and assessment developer, instructional mentor, and International Baccalaureate coordinator. He has also supported the district in delivering professional learning opportunities, most recently on topics related to equity and culturally relevant teaching and curriculum, both of which he is excited to continue supporting at North.

Kristi Weathers – Assistant Principal, North Salem High School

Kristi comes to North Salem High School from North Clackamas School District. She has served as high school assistant principal and elementary principal. Her passion is to serve students at the high school level and is thrilled to become a North Salem Viking! Kristi is an instructional leader with a deep commitment to equity and student engagement.

Kristi is a Salem-Keizer Public Schools graduate and began her teaching career in our district. She is excited to be back in Salem and closer to her family.

Jim Miller – Assistant Principal, Sprague High School

Jim Miller has been a part of Salem-Keizer Public Schools for the past 20 years. He has served as a teacher, behavior specialist, assistant principal and high school principal during that time. Most recently, he has been serving as an assistant principal in the EDGE program. His knowledge and experience in various roles will be an asset to the Sprague community. Jim has also spent the last 25 years as a member of the Oregon Army National Guard.

Tyler Lalack – Assistant Principal, West Salem High School

Tyler Lalack currently serves as an assistant principal at EDGE. He will transition to serving West Salem High School as an assistant principal for the 2021-22 school year.

Jessica Gambee – Assistant Principal, West Salem High School

Jessica will be joining Salem-Keizer as an assistant principal at West Salem High School after spending nine years in the Oregon City School District. During her time at OCSD, she served as a learning specialist for students with behavioral challenges and different learning abilities. She has a passion for building strong relationships with students and families and seek ways to remove barriers to learning so that every student can feel successful in their education. Jessica looks forward to continuing in her passion as she begins a new journey with the Salem-Keizer community.

Wendy Stradley – Assistant Principal & Athletic Director, West Salem High School

Currently serving as an assistant principal at McKay High School, Wendy Stradley will begin a new role as an assistant principal and athletic director at West Salem High School. Stradley started her teaching career in the Beaverton School District before she first came to McKay as a teacher in 2012 where she has since served as a teacher leader, coach, behavior specialist and member of the school leadership team. 

Middle School Assistant Principals

Tamika Hampton – Assistant Principal, Claggett Creek

Tamika Hampton currently serves as the assistant principal at Straub Middle School. Tamika will transition to serving Claggett Creek Middle School as an assistant principal for the 2021-22 school year.

Robin Buckingham – Assistant Principal, Leslie

Robin Buckingham currently serves as a middle school level principal for EDGE. Robin will transition to serving Leslie Middle School as an assistant principal for the 2021-22 school year.

Mark Colburn – Assistant Principal, Parrish

Mark Colburn currently serves as the assistant principal at Leslie Middle School. Mark will transition to serving Parrish Middle School as an assistant principal for the 2021-22 school year.

Colleen Johnson – Assistant Principal, Straub and Walker

Colleen Johnson currently serves as an assistant principal at Walker Middle School and she will transition to serving both Straub and Walker as an assistant principal for the 2021-22 school year.

Erica Anderson – Assistant Principal, EDGE

Erica Anderson will remain at EDGE as a middle school level assistant principal for the 2021-22 school year.
