On Friday, August 30, 2019, at around 4 p.m., two of our buses carrying students from North Salem High School were on their way to Redmond for a football game.

That’s when one of the buses had a mechanical problem. It happened on Oregon Highway 22, near Marion Forks.

Turned out there was an Oregon Department of Transportation crew close by that was there to help, and it came to the rescue.

Jose Fuentes and Ricky Paye with ODOT responded with a service truck, got the bus to pull out safely, looked at the problem, went to their shop for parts and repaired our bus.

“We have an excellent partnership with ODOT,” said Michael Shields, Director of Transportation Services. “We want to express our gratitude to them for keeping an eye out for our buses when they cross the pass for sporting events in Redmond and Bend.”

Thank you ODOT for all you do, and congratulations on being named Salem-Keizer’s Community Partner of the Month for October 2019.
