February is Black History Month and in Salem-Keizer Public Schools, more than 2,000 of our students identify as Black and African American. The district is committed to creating safe spaces that inspire students to be proud of who they are, and this month, we want to recognize and celebrate the contributions and leadership of Black and African Americans within our schools and community, and more broadly within our state and nation.
