ESOL – English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL)/Sheltered Instruction
- Teachers use English as the language of instruction in all subjects, including reading and writing
- Subjects are taught using sheltered instruction strategies to help students learn English and subject matter information at the same time
- Teachers with ESOL endorsement
- Students receive English Language Development (ELD) instruction on a consistent basis
Two-Way Immersion Bilingual (Dual Language)
- Subjects taught in both English and Spanish according to the model
- The goal of the program is that all students, both native English and native Spanish-speakers, become bilingual and bi-literate and develop cultural competence
- Spanish bilingual instructional assistant when available
- Other subjects taught using sheltered instruction strategies following district K-5 Two-Way Immersion (Dual Language) instructional program
- Students receive English Language Development (ELD) instruction on a consistent basis
Transitional Bilingual – Early Exit (Literacy Squared)
- Literacy taught in Spanish grades K-5th decreasing in time according to the grade level (Literacy Squared) (4th/5th grade currently not available at all schools)
- English Literacy taught K-5
- Students receive English Language Development (ELD) instruction on a consistent basis
- Other subjects taught using sheltered instruction strategies following district K-5 Early Exit instructional program
- Teachers with bilingual and ESOL endorsements provide support in native language to clarify ideas and concepts
- Bilingual instructional assistant support when available
Newcomer Center
- Providing academic support for students new to country
- Reading and writing taught in Spanish for Spanish native speakers – only at Middle School
- Other subjects taught using English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) strategies
- Teachers with bilingual/ESOL endorsement
- Students receive English Language Development (ELD) instruction on a consistent basis
