Oregon Humane Society Summer Day Camp at the Salem OHS shelter

Oregon Humane Society is hosting 6 weeks of Summer Day Camp this year at the Salem OHS shelter, and we are searching for outstanding high school students to serve as volunteer Junior Camp Counselors.  Serving at a JCC at OHS Salem summer camp is an excellent way for high school students to contribute to their community, develop leadership skills and accrue volunteer hours for college applications! 


Here is what we are looking for in a volunteer:

  • Age: Rising 9th grade and above

  • Possess punctuality, flexibility, energy and enthusiasm.

  • Sincere respect and passion for animals and children.

  • Care and understanding of creating a positive learning environment.

  • Ability to work well in a small community and have fun!

Here is what JCC’s get to do:

  • Leading a group of 5-6 campers throughout a day of camp, as a team.

  • Carrying out games, activities, crafts, etc.

  • Assisting with animal handling and socialization

  • Being a positive role model for campers

Here are the camp details:

  • Camp takes place at our animal shelter in Salem (4246 Turner Road SE)

  • Mandatory JCC Training Days are June 25-27

  • Camp runs for 6 weeks, but the minimum commitment for volunteers is any 2 weeks

  • Camps run Monday – Friday, 8 am - 4pm (JCC shift is 8 hours)
