Meet Owen Marksbury
During the 2023-24 school year, Owen Marksbury was selected by Scholastic as one of 28 student writers from throughout the world and the only one selected from the Pacific Northwest to become a Scholastic Kid Reporter. The reporters are from 17 different U.S. states and eight other countries.
Over the school year Owen wrote six stories for the Kids Press website.
I want to write stories that can help people in their everyday lives.

Owen SOARs at Kalapuya
Owen is a part of the SOAR team at Kalapuya Elementary, which is a group of students who lead school assemblies each month. As a SOAR team leader, Owen is a role model for the younger students. He visits other classrooms and is able to reward classes with SOAR classroom tickets.
We are so proud of Owen’s accomplishment and are thankful to have him a part of the Kalapuya Condor family!

Outside the classroom
Owen’s favorite book is The Lord of the Rings and he also loves building Lego creations and playing chess. One day he wants to become an author or a teacher. Maybe he will come back to Salem-Keizer if he becomes a teacher!
