Chiharu Blatt is the Vice President of Community Operations in the Mid-Willamette Valley and Central Oregon Regions for Trillium Family Services. She helps oversee a new public-private partnership spearheaded by local leaders and Salem-Keizer Public Schools to address a necessary gap in children’s behavioral health services in our area.

The Launch of the Children's Day Education Center and the Meadowlark Program

Earlier this year, Trillium Family Services, in partnership with leaders in our district, officially opened the doors to a new day treatment center, which offers a unique blend of mental health and educational support specifically for K-12 students.

“We stand united amid a national youth mental health crisis, empowered by strong regional partnerships and the generous support of local leaders who believe in providing the right care at the right time. While Oregon ranks 50th in behavioral health care for youth, we are committed to reimagining and building a stronger, more effective system for our community,” said Chris Moore, Director of Social-Emotional Learning and Mental Health at SKPS.

Salem-Keizer teachers lead the classrooms while a multidisciplinary team from Trillium delivers therapy and skills training to help students overcome emotional and behavioral challenges that affect their success at school and home.

The program offers students academic instruction, personalized coaching, therapeutic groups, and weekly family therapy sessions, all tailored to meet their needs. Together, the goal is to help students thrive mentally and academically, building brighter futures for them and their families.

“I would say our partnership has been based on experiences of working together, to build the foundation of what our kids need. Our kids are our future. This partnership is built off of trust, and it's built off of experiences, both from the Salem Keizer end and from Trillium's end.”

Chiharu is confident that this partnership is only the beginning and believes it will continue to expand and build healthier communities together.
