A gift of calm — Janet Mager

The image shows an elderly woman with gray hair wearing a black coat and standing in a room with wooden cabinets and shelves in the background, surrounded by colorful tulips.

In a quiet but meaningful way, Janet Mager has helped to remind educators that they are seen, valued and cared for.

Small pillows, big impact

Janet, a dedicated community member, has handcrafted and donated more than 600 lavender relaxation pillows—one for every elementary teacher across the district. With pillows already on their way to middle schools, she’s also set on reaching every teacher in middle and high schools this year.

Each pillow is simple, but intentional. This small gesture is designed to offer a moment of calm when our teachers need it most.

Supporting teacher well-being

Janet understands what it takes to show up for students every day. She knows that supporting students starts with supporting staff and their own well-being. Her pillows offer teachers a gentle reminder to pause, breathe and take care of their mental health.

Beyond the pillows, Janet hopes her work encourages something deeper: confidence. A belief that each person has something meaningful to offer, and that even small acts can make a lasting difference.
