Secondary Schools to Launch New Meal Service Process

Colorful fruits and vegetables lined up in school lunch room.

As part of the Community Eligibility Provision, all students in Salem-Keizer Public Schools receive one no-cost breakfast and lunch each day.

Starting this school year (2024-25), all Salem-Keizer middle and high schools will implement a new meal service system for all meal periods. This adjustment is essential to comply with the requirements set by the Oregon Department of Education.

Students will now begin to use their student ID numbers, either by entering them when checking out during meal service or by scanning their school ID card.

 What Is Changing

During meal service, students will move through the new meal service process when receiving a meal. The only change for the start of the 2024-25 school year is the check out process for students to provide their student ID number or school ID card.

 What Is Not Changing

There will be no impact to a student’s access to no-cost meals. This new meal service process will not affect students' access to one no-cost breakfast and lunch daily, which is provided to all students in Salem-Keizer Public Schools.

This update reflects the district’s commitment to maintaining high standards in the delivery of meal services, while ensuring access to nutritious meals for all students to be prepared to learn each and every day.
