Salem-Keizer Public Schools and the Association of Salem-Keizer Education Support Professionals reached a tentative agreement on a new two-year contract for classified employees following nine bargaining sessions. The contract offers raises, increases the district’s contribution for employee medical insurance, and expands leave benefits.

“Throughout this process, both teams worked together to bring forth a contract that strikes a balance of fairness and reasonableness, with a joint focus on honoring the important work of our education support professionals,” said Brad Avakian, director of Labor Relations for Salem-Keizer Public Schools.”

“ASK ESP is proud of the work both teams put into this agreement,” said Chair of the ASK ESP Bargaining Committee Sandy Sandoval. “Our members show up every day to keep schools running, and this contract reflects meaningful progress toward honoring that commitment. We appreciate the district’s partnership in reaching a fair, responsible agreement that supports the stability and well‑being of the staff who serve students and families. We appreciate the grace each side has shown, and look forward towards a positive future.”

Contract Updates

The new collective bargaining agreement runs through June 30, 2028.

The contract represents an approximate $18.8 million investment in our classified staff over the two-year life of the contract. Below are some highlights from the contract:

  • Cost of living adjustments of 3.8% and 3.2% for the 2026-27 and 2027-28 years, respectively
  • District contribution to medical insurance of $1605 per month in 2026-27 and $1635 per month in 2027-28, and an additional $25/month to HSAs
  • Protecting leave accruals during inclement weather
  • Additional compensation for staff assisting with student toilet protocols
  • Enhancements to personal leave
  • No leave required to attend parent-teacher conferences

Next steps

The next step in the process is for the proposed collective bargaining agreement to be ratified by ASK ESP members. Then, it will go to the school board for approval.

The collective bargaining agreement will be added to the district website after board approval.
