Salem-Keizer School Board Approves Two-Year Strategic Plan For Our District
After months of collaboration, community engagement and internal development, district leaders presented our new two-year strategic plan, aptly named Climbing Together, to the school board for approval at their business meeting on April 8, 2025.
This plan represents a vision for student success, improved student support and systemic improvement.
Every single activity in the plan directly supports our broader goals. This is about doing meaningful work for students.

Our Plan Outlines Three Primary Focus Areas or Strategies
Our plan also includes our core values, which serve as a north star, guiding our actions and decision-making. These values were chosen based on the feedback of nearly 1,700 members of our community, including staff, students and families.
Strengthening Our Foundational Conditions
Creating safe, healthy environments and modernized systems that support all schools.
Improving Student Agency and Wellness
Empowering students through social-emotional learning, attendance initiatives, and increased support systems.
Elevating Academic Excellence
Focusing on instruction, professional learning, and curriculum strategies that lead to measurable academic growth.
Students at the Center
We prioritize student needs in our decision-making and actions. Being student-centered requires us to listen to student perspectives, study student outcomes and align our resources to student needs.
Excellence
We set high standards for everyone and we support one another in reaching those standards. High standards, coupled with support, inspire a virtuous cycle of growth and achievement.
Equity
We see each student as an individual deserving of a tailored school experience that affirms their identity and story, cultivates their strengths and interests and supports their growth through challenges and opportunities.
Relationships
We thrive when we build meaningful connections with each other. Mutual respect, trust and care between students, families, staff and the broader community are essential for effective learning.
Community
We create a place where everyone feels seen, heard and welcomed. Students, families, staff and neighbors are all viewed as contributors to our schools.
A draft of Climbing Together is available through our school board document library. The final version of our plan will be posted and shared online in the coming weeks.
