Salem-Keizer Public Schools Budget Committee Vacancies
Salem-Keizer Public Schools (SKPS) is seeking three community members to fill open vacancies on the district budget committee. The appointees will serve three-year terms ending June 30, 2027 (serving spring of 2025, 2026, 2027).
About the Budget Committee
The SKPS Budget Committee is a 14-member group consisting of the SKPS Board of Directors and seven community member volunteers appointed by the school board. Community appointees normally serve a three-year term and may apply for additional service. The committee is an advisory group, as established by Oregon statute, to make recommendations to the board regarding the annual operating budget.
Budget Committee Meeting Dates
Public meetings for the annual budget will take place between January and May. Budget committee meetings typically begin at 6 p.m. and are held at the Salem-Keizer School District Boardroom located at 2575 Commercial Street SE, Salem, Oregon, though some meetings may be held virtually. There is also the possibility of multiple, consecutive meeting dates, as well as the potential for Saturday meetings.
Applicant Qualifications
Candidates for the budget committee must:
- Be registered voters and residents of Salem-Keizer School District 24J (ORS 294.414(2))
- Not be employees, officers, and agents of the district (ORS 294.414(4))
- As of July 1, 2022, a school district must include at least one member of the district’s educational equity advisory committee on the budget committee (ORS 328.542(2))*
The school board will ask candidates to create a brief digital interview video which will be reviewed prior to the February 11 board meeting. The board will appoint candidates to the committee at the February 11 meeting.* The board will appoint at least one member from applicants who serve on the District Equity Advisory Committee (DEAC).
