Paul Odenthal named SKPS Chief Operations Officer

Paul Odenthal, Chief Operations Officer

Paul Odenthal has been selected to join Salem-Keizer Public Schools’ executive leadership team as the district’s chief operations officer.

This appointment follows a rigorous and values-driven selection process focused on careful consideration of the strategic needs of our organization and the unique strengths each candidate brought to the table. The process included multiple rounds of evaluation, stakeholder input and alignment with our long-term goals.

Paul brings more than three decades of leadership experience in public service, education, and operations. Most recently, he served as Senior Associate Vice President for Administration at Oregon State University, where he led university-wide programs in public safety, capital planning, environmental health, and infrastructure services. He managed a $68 million annual budget and oversaw $1 billion in capital construction projects.

Previously the Executive Administrator for Facilities at Beaverton School District, Paul directed a $680 million capital bond program, managed facilities for 54 campuses, and led emergency operations for a district serving 40,000 students. Paul is also a retired U.S. Navy Captain, having led global construction and humanitarian missions and brings a strong foundation in strategic planning, equity, and community partnerships.

We are confident that Paul’s leadership will strengthen our operational systems and support the work our staff do every day in our schools and departments. His background reflects a deep commitment to service, collaboration, and excellence, which are all values that align with our mission and the needs of our students, staff and community.
