National Shortage Impacting Milk Carton Supply

Students at a lunch table with school lunch and milk cartons

This is an important message for all families who participate in meal service at any Salem-Keizer Public School.

The district has been notified by the United States Department of Agriculture that due to supply chain limitations related to packaging, many districts across the nation may experience milk shortages.

Impacts to Local Milk Supply

Currently, Salem-Keizer is being impacted by this national shortage of packaged milk cartons. These milk cartons are traditionally served and available to students when accessing no-cost meals for breakfast and lunch. Due to this national shortage, milk availability may be limited at local schools. As a reminder, water will always be provided as an option for students. During this shortage, our schools remain in compliance with all state and federal regulations for meal service.

We hope this shortage will be resolved quickly, however, at this time we do not have an anticipated date for national supply levels to be stabilized.
