Danielle Neves Named SKPS Deputy Superintendent
Danielle Neves has been selected to join Salem-Keizer Public Schools’ executive leadership team as the district’s deputy superintendent overseeing secondary education for the district’s middle and high schools. Neves will oversee secondary education, in addition to other duties previously held by the former Deputy Superintendent Iton Udosenata.
Udosenata was recently hired as superintendent of Tigard-Tualatin School District creating a vacancy in Salem-Keizer. Neves was selected amongst several talented and highly qualified applicants for the deputy superintendent position and will support an effective leadership team for the future of Salem-Keizer.
Danielle Neves brings a 30-year career in education, with experience at all levels of educational systems to support the fidelity and vision of the future of Salem-Keizer Public Schools.
The deputy superintendent serves as a member of the superintendent’s executive team, supervising middle and high school leadership, the Office of Equity and Advancement and more. The district is currently supported by two deputy superintendents, one at the elementary level and one at the secondary level. Both work together to support the success of all 65 Salem-Keizer schools.
Danielle Neves is an experienced leader with a track record of improving the conditions for teaching and learning and through, that, student outcomes. She will be a key member of our executive team and I look forward to the expertise, experience, vision, and values she will bring to our school system.
Superintendent Andrea Castañeda
Most recently, Neves served as the instructional leadership director of secondary education and previously served as the Deputy Chief of Academics at Tulsa Public Schools in Oklahoma. Throughout her 30-year career in education, Neves has served educational systems in several capacities including as a counselor, middle school teacher, school principal, and district-based administrative positions in the areas of curriculum and teaching and learning.
Neves’ career has focused on providing the right support at the right time directly to school and classroom levels throughout educational systems. Through her experience leading principal teams across large urban districts to develop systems for timely curriculum and educational strategy implementation, Neves is committed to the support of educators, educational systems and all students served through public education.
Throughout my career, I have had the privilege of serving in several urban school districts across the country. I have witnessed firsthand the transformative impact education can have on students' lives, and the power of adult collective efficacy to enact those transformative experiences. I thrive on leading change that positively impacts students and educators and equity is a mainstay of my leadership philosophy. I will continue to work to ensure our decisions, policies and practices promote inclusivity, address systemic disparities and create pathways for success.
Deputy Superintendent Danielle Neves
Neves will be joining the Salem-Keizer community with her incoming middle school student. You'll be sure to catch Neves spending time with the two most important things to her in her life–her family and her faith– while exploring all that the Pacific Northwest has to offer. Neves looks forward to exploring the Oregon coast, mountains and an abundance of great local bookstores.
Neves will officially begin duties in August and is excited to see students in action and begin collaborating with leadership and staff across the district to prepare for the upcoming school year and the future of Salem-Keizer Public Schools.
