Contract Renewed for Salem-Keizer Public Schools’ Superintendent Castañeda

Superintendent

The Salem-Keizer School Board of Directors approved a three-year contract extension for Superintendent Andrea Castañeda during their regularly scheduled business meeting on March 11, 2025.

Superintendent Castañeda is in her second year leading Oregon’s second-largest school district, which recently demonstrated gains in graduation outcomes for the first time in four years.

Words cannot express the most outstanding job you have done in this district.
Cynthia Richardson, Salem-Keizer School Board Chair

“You lead with your heart. You never stop working for our students, always wanting to do more and always doing more," School Board Chair Cynthia Richardson said. "You should be so proud of what you have accomplished, as I am so proud of what you have accomplished.”

The board’s vote on the contract followed their unanimous approval of Superintendent Castañeda’s formal evaluation.

“Salem-Keizer was the only district in which I sought the superintendency,” said Superintendent Castañeda. “Over the last two years, my commitment to our community has only deepened. I am humbled, grateful, and endlessly dedicated to our schools and serving on our team.”

The board’s action approves Superintendent Castañeda’s contract for three years, from July 1, 2025, through June 30, 2028. It also delegates authority for the board chair to enter into contract negotiations with the superintendent.

Details of the contract will be determined through the negotiation process.
