Celebrating Classified School Employees at SKPS
From March 3 to 7, Salem-Keizer Public Schools (SKPS) is celebrating Classified School Employees Week. This week is all about recognizing the hardworking staff who help keep our schools running. They play a big part in making sure students feel safe, supported and ready to learn.
This is the first annual week-long celebration as we align with the new statewide week recognized under Oregon HB2708.
Our Classified Employees
Classified employees include bus drivers, custodians, office staff, nutrition workers, instructional assistants, and many others. They greet students in the morning, keep buildings clean, prepare meals and offer learning support in classrooms. Their work may happen behind the scenes, but it is essential to student success.
At Yoshikai Elementary School (pictured above), classified staff selected red or yellow roses as a show of appreciation. "We picked roses because we appreciate how they support our students in their academic and social/emotional growth," Principal Jesse Leonard said.
We so appreciate our classified staff. They are the glue that holds our school together and their dedication to our students is admirable.

Every day, these employees make a difference by building positive connections with students. A kind word from a bus driver, extra help from an instructional assistant, or a warm meal from the cafeteria staff can brighten a student's day. They do more than just their jobs—they create a welcoming school community.
Recognizing the Work Classified Employees Do
Schools across SKPS will find ways to show appreciation this week, from thank you notes and posters to special events. Families, students, and staff are encouraged to take a moment to recognize these employees and thank them for their dedication.
Classified School Employees Week is a time to celebrate the people who help our schools succeed. SKPS is proud to honor our classified employees and the incredible work they do.
Thank you for making a difference in the lives of our students!
