Salem-Keizer Public Schools has a robust health services team that supports the health and safety of more than 40,000 students across 65 schools. We are committed to providing an environment that puts student, staff and visitor health and safety first and our district has worked closely with local public health authorities in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The entire Salem-Keizer team strives for openness and transparency, which is why the district is maintaining the COVID-19 data dashboard. Designed in the form of an easy-to-read report, the goal is to keep the public informed on how COVID-19 impacts district schools.

The dashboard is updated every weeknight and will show the total new cases reported during the current week.

The “Student Attendance Rates” dashboard will be updated daily. Please note that attendance rates can be impacted by more than just COVID-19 cases or close contacts. Other illness and professional or medical appointments also impact the number of student absences at a school.

As COVID-19 continues to be a part of our daily lives, we regularly assess district operations and facilities to prioritize health and safety.

Currently, face coverings remain optional for students, staff and visitors.

For the 2022-23 school year, SKPS will be monitoring the Marion and Polk County community case rate using the CDC’s COVID-19 by County data. When one of our counties moves to high risk, the district will highly recommend wearing a face covering for all individuals, especially while in indoors, or in crowded outdoor settings. During periods of low or medium risk, the district will continue to recommend wearing a face covering.

When a positive case of COVID-19 is identified within the school setting, we work closely with the local public health authority to ensure that the person diagnosed with COVID-19 follows instructions for isolation and remains away from others until they can safely return to school.

It is important that we each recognize the role we all play in keeping our community healthy and safe by maintaining preventative personal hygiene practices:

  • Staying home when sick
  • Regular hand washing
  • Covering coughs and sneezes

In addition, we will continue the following practices:

  • Maintaining clean learning and working environments
  • Increasing ventilation in district facilities
  • Using HEPA filtration units in specific locations
  • Maintaining free hand sanitizer stations at each building entrance
  • Provide face coverings for any individual who chooses to wear one
