Position Summary
The Security Field Coordinator enhances districtwide safety by leading, training, and supporting Campus Safety Specialists while coordinating comprehensive security operations across multiple sites. This position develops, implements, and evaluates safety and security programs; conducts site and threat assessments; and collaborates with district administrators, emergency management partners, and external agencies to maintain safe learning and working environments. The Security Field Coordinator also provides technical expertise on security systems, assists in emergency preparedness initiatives, responds to after-hours and on-call situations, and ensures consistent application of district safety procedures, protocols, and best practices.

- Plans, develops, and implements district safety and security programs to support safe learning and working environments.
- Assists in implementing districtwide emergency preparedness and emergency management initiatives in coordination with the District Emergency Manager and participates in Incident Command activities.
- Plans, conducts, and evaluates Options Based Decision Making (OBMD) trainings for district staff.
- Patrols district buildings and grounds following established procedures and adjusts schedules and routes based on situational needs.
- Performs threat assessments and serves as a member of Student Support Response Teams (SSRT).
- Investigates or assists in investigations involving property damage, theft, vandalism, and other security incidents.
- Supports, evaluates, and troubleshoots district security systems in collaboration with Technology and Information Services and external vendors.
- Provides backup coverage to schools when the assigned Campus Safety Specialist is unavailable.
- Coordinates security patrols and standing guard responses and responds to after-hours calls as needed.
- Conducts security site assessments to identify and address physical security vulnerabilities across district facilities.
- Compiles, analyzes, and interprets safety and security data and prepares reports regarding threats, incidents, alarms, restraining orders, trespasses, stalking orders, and other risk-related information.
- Monitors state and national trends in school safety, personal security, and threat prevention to ensure district practices remain aligned with current standards.
- Trains and directs Campus Safety Specialists and substitutes and assists in evaluating their performance.
- Provides ongoing training on security procedures, equipment, and required certifications for Campus Safety Specialists.
- Supports special projects related to school safety, security protocols, and district initiatives.
- Responds to planned, unplanned, and emergency calls for support on a 24-hour basis.
- Maintains all skills and competencies required of the Campus Safety Specialist classification.
- Performs other duties related to the position, as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of organizational policies and procedures, and the ability to learn and apply district-specific standards.
- Knowledge of security systems and Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) principles.
- Knowledge of threat assessment practices, violence mitigation strategies, and violent intruder response protocols.
- Knowledge of problem-solving methods, mediation techniques, and conflict-resolution strategies.
- Knowledge of building and grounds security patrolling methods, including scheduling and coordinating patrol activities.
- Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations related to school security, including Oregon statutes governing restraining orders, stalking orders, custody orders, and trespass.
- Strong oral and written communication skills appropriate to the responsibilities of the role.
- Skill in using common technology tools—including email, productivity applications, digital communication platforms, and district systems—with the ability to learn new tools as needed.
- Skill in conducting comprehensive security assessments using CPTED principles.
- Skill in evaluating the performance of Campus Safety Specialists and providing clear, constructive feedback.
- Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with students, staff, administrators, families, community partners, and outside agencies.
- Ability to build and maintain positive, productive, and culturally responsive relationships with students, staff, families, and community partners.
- Ability to provide timely, accurate, courteous, and empathetic service that reflects district core values.

- Ability to obtain and maintain all certifications required by the Department of Public Safety Standards and Training (DPSST), including Supervisory Manager and Unarmed Security Instructor certifications.
- Ability to obtain and maintain current CPR and First Aid certifications.
- Ability to perform all essential functions of the job and adapt work practices to evolving district safety and security needs.
Minimum Qualifications
Any combination of training, experience, and/or education may be considered in meeting these position requirements.
Education
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Experience
Two (2) years of experience dealing with adolescents including background in community corrections techniques, juvenile parole, and probation, law enforcement, and/or four (4) years’ experience as a campus security officer in a K-12 setting including experience as a supervisor or trainer.
Licenses, Certifications, and Other Requirements
- Possession of a valid US driver’s license and availability of private transportation (mileage reimbursement provided).
- Possession of or the ability to obtain certification by the State of Oregon as a private security officer prior to employment. Must maintain certification throughout employment.
- Possession of or the ability to obtain certification by the State of Oregon as a Supervisory Manager.
- Possession of or the ability to obtain certification by the State of Oregon as an Unarmed Security Instructor.

High: Work frequently requires complex decision-making, rapid prioritization, and adaptability within a fast-paced school or district environment. The role may involve managing emotionally charged or sensitive situations with students, families, staff, or external stakeholders. Stress levels can be heightened by urgent or overlapping deadlines, high-impact decisions, crisis-response responsibilities, or competing expectations from multiple school sites or departments. Regular extended concentration is required to complete detailed work, respond to time-critical issues, or support programs with broad community visibility.
Working Environment
High risk and significant discomfort: Work may occur in field-based, security, maintenance, transportation, or behavior-intensive environments with elevated safety risks and unpredictable situations. Employees may encounter aggressive behaviors, outdoor exposure to weather, emergencies, or unsafe facility conditions. Situations may involve loud noise, bodily fluids, or crisis response, requiring heightened situational awareness and adherence to safety procedures.
