Data Engineer

Primary Function

The Data Engineer will support student achievement by expanding and optimizing our data architecture, data flows, collection and reporting for cross functional teams. The Data Engineer will support our software developers, database architects, data analysts and district administration on data initiatives.

Key responsibilities include systems integration, data warehouse design and management, data pipeline architecture and implementation and acting as a technical expert to enable the data analytics platform to meet the needs of the district.

Essential Functions

  1. Create and maintain data integrations between our production systems
  2. Assemble large, complex data sets that meet functional / non-functional business requirements.
  3. Assist in managing data integrity, data analysis, presentation development, data collection, program evaluation, and electronic records management
  4. Manage student information system and ensure data integrity
  5. Identify, design, and implement internal process improvements: automating manual processes, optimizing data delivery, re-designing infrastructure for greater scalability, etc.
  6. Build the infrastructure required for optimal extraction, transformation, and loading of data from a wide variety of data sources using Structured Query Language (SQL) or other Extract, Transform and Load (ETL) tools
  7. Collaborate with internal and external teams to improve data models that feed business intelligence tools, increasing data accessibility and fostering data-driven decision making across the organization.
  8. Implement processes and systems to monitor data quality, ensuring production data is always accurate and available for key stakeholders and business processes that depend on it.
  9. Build high-performance algorithms, predictive models, and prototypes.
  10. Perform other duties as assigned

Desired Qualifications

  1. Bachelor’s degree in computer science, software/computer engineering, applied mathematics, or statistics.
  2. Experience using data in educational settings to drive change at the classroom and systems level
  3. 4+ years of SQL experience in SQL Server and SQL Server Data Warehouse
  4. 4+ years of experience with schema design and dimensional data modeling
  5. Experience designing, building, and maintaining data processing systems

Work Environment

The position generally works primarily in a climate-controlled office environment with minimal noise intensity levels. Frequent travel to district and non-district locations for meetings and activities.

Special Requirements

Possession of, or the ability to obtain an Oregon Driver’s license, must have a safe driving record and provide proof of personal vehicle insurance. Required to have a reliable vehicle at work daily. May be required to drive to and from multiple District locations and/or transport District equipment in personal vehicle (motorcycles cannot be used to transport District equipment)

Physical Requirements

Hearing and speaking to exchange information; seeing to perform assigned duties; sitting, standing and walking for extended periods of time; dexterity of hands and fingers to operate equipment; kneeling, bending at the waist, and reaching overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally, to retrieve and store files and materials, and lifting light objects.

Strength: Sedentary/Medium – Exert force to 10-25 pounds frequently, and up to 10 pounds constantly or a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull or move objects.

Intermittent bending, twisting, squatting kneeling, crawling, climbing stairs, and/or reaching.
