Specialist, Foundational Skills Elementary

Primary Function

Coordinates schoolwide multi-tiered systems of support and provides direct support to staff with a primary focus on the monitoring and implementation of the Oregon Early Literacy Framework.

Assigned Responsibilities

1. Supports the effective implementation and use of instructional materials for literacy as outlined in the SKPS Elementary Standards of Practice.
2. Matches district-aligned curriculum to provide tiered literacy support based on universal screening, progress monitoring, and/or intervention placement assessments.
3. Supports student goals and best practices in alignment with the science of reading and language of instruction.
4. Coordinates school-wide literacy assessments for universal screening, progress monitoring, diagnostic, and intervention placement at District-recommended frequency.
5. Documents student progress based on district guidance for tiered supports (ie. Synergy, Core Review & Intervention Review processes, etc.)
6. Assists grade-level teams in Analyzing literacy data trends to determine growth toward grade-level skills.
7. Prepares and supports teachers in using data-based teaming within district structures (e.g., Core Review, PLCs, Interventions Revies, IPS, etc.)
8. Supports the implementation of systematic and explicit literacy instruction for Tier 1 and Tiers 2/3 (high dosage tutoring) through training, coaching, and feedback as outlined in The Oregon Early Literacy Framework Plan. 
9. Supports teachers in the delivery of District literacy curriculum and strategies for all tiers. 
10. Assists administrator in gathering schoolwide data for The Oregon Early Literacy Framework Plan.
11. Ensures required dyslexia screenings are administered to all K-1 students.
12. Follows specified standards, policies, and procedures of the building and district.
13. Coteaches early literacy lessons to further foundational skills practices.
14. Understands and supports effective language acquisition best practices for literacy development for multilingual language learners.
15. Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Certification/License

Oregon Teaching License valid for assignment.

ESOL Endorsement preferred.

3. Work effectively with primary age children.
4. Work effectively with multilingual learners.
5. Achieve equitable outcomes for students.

Placement on Teacher Salary Schedule.

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation and Professional Personnel.
