District Courier

PURPOSE

To improve student achievement by performing a variety of duties involved in movement of district assets so that staff, students, and community partners have access to the resources necessary to support departments, schools and programs to operate effectively and efficiently.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

Receives general supervision from assigned supervisory personnel. Methods of performing tasks are outlined or explained in general terms and work is reviewed by a supervisor or their designee at regular intervals.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB – May include, but are not limited to, the following

  1. Interpreting and following district policies, procedures, work instruction and direction provided by a supervisor or designee.
  2. Collaborate and make recommendations with assigned supervisor or designee regarding new and revised services and/or procedures for efficiency and improvement of the customer experience.
  3. Maintain timely and accurate records using both written and technology-based methods.
  4. Load, transport, assemble/disassemble, and unload items of varying size and weight including but not limited to interschool/departmental mail, warehouse orders, print orders, furniture, freight, and similar items to meet the specifications of the work assignment to and from both district and non-district locations.
  5. Ability to follow delivery, work schedules, and instructions with flexibility to adjust quickly and regularly to changes to support the needs of the district.
  6. Follow governing regulations and maintain required certification(s) related to the operations of motor vehicles and manual and/or powered equipment used during the course of work.
  7. Maintain regular and consistent attendance and punctuality.
  8. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
  9. Performing other similar and related duties consistent with job description as assigned by supervisors or their designees.
  10. Maintain a safe driving record and appropriate licensure and/or certification(s).
  11. Routinely required to operate large delivery vehicles, forklifts, and pallet jacks.
  12. Maintain safe practices for use of forklift, pallet jack, hydraulic and manual lift gates, and related equipment.
  13. Conduct regular inspections of equipment and vehicles used in the course of work and correct and/or report any unsafe conditions to assigned supervisor or their designee.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of

  1. Methods and practices used in large operation logistics.
  2. Principles of work scheduling, organization, and simplification.
  3. Applicable practices and procedures for mail, material, furniture, freight, and equipment handling.
  4. Safe ergonomic and equipment operation practices as well as related governing rules, regulations, and laws.

Ability to

  1. Deliver exceptional customer focused service.
  2. Evaluate and establish work priorities.
  3. Perform manual labor and heavy lifting.
  4. Communicate effectively; electronically, orally and in writing.
  5. Write legibly; and to make clear, brief, factual written, electronic, and oral reports
  6. Effectively use technology including but not limited to computer and cellular type devices to perform daily work activities.

Experience and Training

Any combination of experience and training that would provide the required knowledge and abilities is appropriate. A representative way to obtain the required knowledge and abilities would be:

Experience

Two years combination of delivery, courier, logistics, or distribution experience.

Training

Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade. Community College-level business courses also helpful.

Special Requirements

  1. Possession of, or ability to obtain and maintain a valid Oregon driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
  2. Possession of, or ability to obtain and maintain a forklift/lift truck certification and acceptable safety record.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Ambient and limited climate-controlled environments in outdoor, office, and warehouse settings. Also includes travel inside and outside the district with varying climatic conditions which may include heat, rain, wind, and snow. Exposure to noise levels from moderate to loud in occasional to frequent time periods.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Frequent reaching, handling, dexterity of hands and fingers to use hand tools, operate power and manual equipment including assigned vehicles, talking and hearing. Mobility and ability to work in a typical office setting and use standard office equipment, stamina to remain seated and maintain concentration for an extended period. Hearing and speech to communicate in person and/or via phone and/or electronic means including but not limited to a computer.

Vision

Frequent near acuity; occasional far acuity. Vision to read and interpret printed materials, signage, computer screens and/or other monitoring devices.

Strength

Medium-Heavy – Exert force of 50-100 pounds frequently and/or 10-50 pounds of force regularly to move objects. May involve significant stand/walk/carry/push/pull activities.

PAY GRADE

Placement upon the Annual Schedule for Classified Employees, Grade 15.

EVALUATION

The performance of this position will be evaluated according to the district process for the evaluation of classified employees.
