Crossing Guard

DEFINITION
To assist students cross streets safely; and to maintain order at street crossings.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Receives general supervision from an assigned supervisor. Methods of performing tasks are outlined or explained in general terms and work is reviewed by a supervisor at regular intervals during progress and upon completion.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
May include, but are not limited to, the following
- Assists students cross streets safely.
- Maintains order of students at curbsides.
- Stands in middle of street alerting traffic that crosswalk is in use.
- Reminds students of street safety; responds to students not following rules.
- Reports any unsafe or unusual activities to the office.
- Performs related duties consistent with job description and assignment.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of
Traffic and pedestrian safety rules and regulations. Practices of first aid.
Ability to
- Watch children carefully.
- Explain rules to students.
- Respond quickly in an emergency.
Experience and Training
Any combination of experience and training that would provide the required knowledge and abilities is appropriate. A representative way to obtain the required knowledge and abilities would be:
Experience
Some experience working with children.
Education
High school diploma, General Educational Development (GED), OR any combination of education and experience which would provide the applicant with the desired skills, knowledge, and ability required to perform the job.
