PURPOSE

To improve student achievement by planning, organizing, coordinating, supervising and designing activities to meet the physical, emotional and intellectual needs of students beyond their regular classroom day and to manage supply, payment and enrollment records for extended day care site.

CLASS CHARACTERISTICS

This class is distinguished from the childcare worker by performance of the work coordination of lower classifications, records management functions for the program, and implementation of grant funds. The employee is expected to perform these duties with minimal direct supervision.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

Receives general supervision from an assigned administrator. Plans, assigns, and coordinates the work of lower classifications. Responsible for day-to-day work direction and control of staff activities.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB

May include, but are not limited to, the following

  1. Planning and coordinating the activities of grant programs, including development of goals, objectives, work plans and timelines.
  2. Developing programs which include a mixture of enrichment and recreational activities.
  3. Coordinating the activities of other extended day care staff and volunteer staff members and provides supervision to personnel.
  4. Recommending, planning, and organizing appropriate staff trainings and notifications.
  5. Serving as a liaison between administrators, agency staff, community partners, program participants, and the public in the coordination of programs and activities.
  6. Keeping accurate and complete records of attendance and fee payments.
  7. Ordering and maintaining supplies and equipment required for the extended day care program.
  8. Keeping supervisor informed of unusual student or parent needs.
  9. Maintaining open communication with staff members to establish a positive work environment.
  10. Planning and conducting staff meetings.
  11. Entering and retrieving data using a personal computer and word processing and/or spreadsheet software programs; maintaining records and generating reports including MUNIS, Time and Absence Reporting System (TARS), and automated substitute calling system.
  12. Planning and purchasing nutritional snacks for all program sites.
  13. Preparing and distributing materials related to program activities for all program sites.
  14. Performing record keeping related to the accounting of funds received and payments due.
  15. Maintaining regular and consistent attendance and punctuality.
  16. Performing other related duties consistent with job description and may be required by the program.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of

  1. Principles of management, problem solving, group process, and evaluation
  2. Childcare techniques appropriate for school age children
  3. Educational programs and community resources
  4. Techniques and methods of student supervision and classroom management
  5. Childhood growth and development principles
  6. Pertinent rules, policies, procedures, and regulations affecting program
  7. Basic principles of bookkeeping, record keeping and work organization
  8. English usage, spelling, grammar, punctuation

Ability to

  1. Learn and apply basic first aid and safety requirements
  2. Work in a team situation
  3. Plan, organize, and facilitate a variety of meetings with staff, parents, families and community members.
  4. Supervise or support the implementation of developmentally appropriate programs and environments for preschool children and their parents
  5. Maintain a flexible work schedule which may necessitate overtime or evening work
  6. Provide reliable transportation for home visits and travel to district sites and related meetings
  7. Operate a computer with integrated financial system access and related peripheral equipment and software.
  8. Maintain highest level of confidentiality in all matters relating to students
  9. Physically perform job tasks normally associated with position
  10. Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
  11. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work

Experience and Training

Any combination of experience and training that would provide the required knowledge and abilities is appropriate. A representative way to obtain the required knowledge and abilities would be:

Experience

Two years of instructional assistance or child supervision experience at least one year of which included coordination of the work of other staff.

Training

Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade and preferably including post secondary training or coursework in child development, early childhood education or a related field.

Special Requirements

  1. Proof of being free of tuberculosis.
  2. First Aid card and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification desirable.

Work Environment

  1. Climate controlled office settings and exposure to minimal to moderate noise intensity levels.
  2. High level of contact with district personnel. Moderate level of contact with outside agencies/community.

Physical Requirements

Frequent reaching, handling, fingering, talking and hearing. Mobility to work in a typical office setting and use standard office equipment, stamina to remain seated and maintain concentration for an extended period. Hearing and speech to communicate in person or over the telephone. Vision: Frequent near acuity; occasional far acuity.
Vision to read printed materials, computer screens and/or other monitoring devices.

Strength: Light/Medium – Exert force to 15 pounds occasionally, and or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull or move objects.
