Primary Function
The Director of K-12 Curriculum and Instruction provides districtwide leadership to the development and implementation of a Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS), curriculum adoption, professional development, and district wide instructional practices for improving the academic outcomes for all students.

Essential Functions

Models and reinforces a laser-like focus on equity-based strategies and practices.

Leads, supports, and promotes equitable student outcomes using curricula, MTSS, and the improvement of teaching and learning.

Leads MTSS professional learning and implementation of structures to monitor academic and behavior systems.

Leads the planning and development of goals, objectives, materials, methods, resources, and activities for elementary and secondary curriculum.

Leads, supports, and promotes research and evidence-based language acquisition and English Language Development programs.

Leads, monitors, and implements programmatic changes and professional development required for expansion of dual language programs.

Leads assessment of the comprehensive elementary and secondary instructional program, reporting results and recommending instructional revisions.

Ensures compliance with Division 22 standards. Monitors and reports on Division 22 requirements related to curriculum, instruction, and services in schools. Proposes and implements changes needed to comply with requirements.

Consults with administrators and school staff on matters related to curriculum and instruction.

Serves as a link between schools, curriculum Program Associates, Level Directors, and others as necessary.

Prioritizes and authorizes professional learning and curricular general fund budget and monitors expenditures.

Models, monitors, and modifies standards, policies, and procedures of the Curriculum and Instruction Department and District.

Provides data monitoring of key performance indicators (KPIs) and facilitates leadership discussion on KPIs in different settings in collaboration with other district leaders.

Develops and maintains relationships with the Oregon Department of Education (ODE), other Oregon school districts, education service districts (ESDs), and professional education organizations to inform district, level, and instructional policies, decision-making, and implementation specific to assigned areas.

Assists Level Directors with school-based staffing allocations and decisions based on curricular and instructional needs and goals.

Provides training and support to curriculum assistant principals for master schedule, and the duties of the curriculum assistant principal.

Oversees the implementation of grading practices, any grading practice changes, and the elementary progress reports.

Supervises and evaluates assigned administrators, licensed, and classified staff.\

Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Licensure: Possess and maintain a current and valid Oregon Administrator’s license appropriate for a district-level assignment.
Knowledge of
- Other cultures, particularly of cultures represented in the Salem-Keizer community.
- Principles and practices of leadership and communication, including strategies for creating inclusive, collaborative, and consultative relationships with diverse groups and individuals.
- Principles and practices of work organization and simplification.
- Current workplace and education technology standards, including strategies for leveraging technology for workplace access and efficiency.
- Principles and practices of workplace and student record confidentiality, including relevant local, state, and federal requirements.

Experience, Education, and Training
Any combination of experience and training that would provide the required knowledge and abilities is appropriate. A representative way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
- Equivalent to a Master’s degree from an accredited college or university, or equivalent training in curriculum, instruction, and leadership.
- Five (5) or more years of leadership experience in school or district level leadership
Working Environment
Climate controlled office setting and exposure to moderate noise intensity levels. High level of contact with district personnel and the community, including frequent visits to schools and evening meetings.
Physical Requirements
Frequent reaching, handling, talking and hearing. Mobility to work in a typical office setting and use standard office equipment. Stamina to remain seated and maintain concentration for an extended period and/or to frequently move from sitting position to standing, walking, stooping and kneeling. Hearing and speech to communicate in person or over the telephone.
Vision:
Frequent near acuity; occasional far acuity. Vision to read printed materials, computer screens and/or other monitoring devices.
Strength:
Sedentary/Light – Exert force to 15 pounds occasionally or a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull or move objects.

The performance of this position will be evaluated according to the district process for the evaluation of administrators.
