Assistant Director, Student Services
Primary Function
Provides direction for student services as a partner with the Director. Develops plans and implements goals and provides vision at the direction of the Director. Provides oversight, leadership, development and coordination of the Program Coordinators, including special education program associates, department staff and administrative assistants. Serves as lead on compliance requirements, professional development, training of new staff and special education process and placement, including one on one supports and services.

Director of Student Services and/or their appointed designee(s).
Essential Functions
- Assists the director in the operation and management of Student Services programs in compliance with federal and state laws, regulations, and District policy including all activities that directly affect students, staff and patrons of the programs by administrative planning, training, direction and philosophy.
- Evaluates Student Services Coordinators and CTP principal through personal contacts, individual meetings and observations in order to maintain and/or improve the quality of teaching and management skills in keeping with District goals, objectives, and philosophy. Works with the director when needs arise in regard to evaluative measures.
- Oversees the 18–21-year-old principal, services and supports. Assists in building community partnerships for employment opportunities.
- Establishes and maintains cooperative relationships with community agencies and organizations and explores ways of partnering with community and school resources to provide support to students.
- Directs the evaluation of the effectiveness of Student Services programs and prepares reports on program results jointly with planning and assessment staff.
- Supervises evaluation team and oversees child find, evaluation and eligibility practices. Researches best practices for evaluations, inclusive practices and reviews data for overidentification and makes adjustments as needed, with director support.
- Oversees outside placements, assurance of IEP compliance and partnerships with external programs.
- Maintains critical communication linkages with building administrators, CTP programs and behavioral health department.
- Assists in the development of recommendations of District policies for services to students with special education, compliance requirements and health services needs.
- Oversees summer program staff and supervises ESY staff, supports scheduling and transportation needs.
- Works with District legal counsel regarding student service compliance issues.
- Serves as liaison with District legal counsel regarding special education mediation and due process proceedings.
- Hires, trains, and supervises Student Services staff. Evaluates staff performance.
- Facilitates meetings with building leaders, district staff and others on special education compliance and additional professional development.
- Support district level work regarding MTSS systems and structures.
- Assists the director with long-and short-range plans for Student Services and coordinates plans with school and District administrators.
- Provides oversight, guidance and leadership to coordinators and specialists for special education placement, ensuring the implementation of the continuum of services and program model descriptions.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- A valid and current Oregon Professional Administrator’s License appropriate for a district-level assignment.
- Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in education, public administration, or a related field.
- Three (3) or more years of experience as an administrator or supervisor in educational and/or public administration.
- Ability to work onsite and travel between more than 65 district locations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience as a special education and/or health services administrator.
- Proficiency and fluency with Spanish language (read, write, listen, and speak).
Work Environment
Climate-controlled office setting with exposure to minimal to moderate noise intensity levels. High level of contact with district personnel, community partners, and funding agencies, including frequent visits to district and non-district locations for meetings and activities. Regularly work on-site in the district. Occasional remote work is possible with permission of the supervisor.
Physical Requirements
Frequent reaching, handling, talking, and hearing. Mobility to work in a typical office setting and use standard office equipment. Stamina to remain seated and maintain concentration for an extended period and/or to frequently move from sitting position to standing, walking, stooping, and kneeling. Hearing and speech to communicate in person or over the telephone.
Vision: Frequent near acuity; occasional far acuity. Vision to read printed materials, computer screens and/or other monitoring devices.
Strength: Sedentary/Light – Exert force to 15 pounds occasionally or a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull or move objects.

Salary Level
Placement upon the current Salem-Keizer Public Schools supervisor salary schedule. Grade 209A.
Evaluation
The performance of this position will be evaluated according to the District’s process for the evaluation of supervisory personnel.
